Jamie is a graduate of Southwest High School in Minneapolis where her prep career included track, soccer and Nordic skiing. In her senior year, she finished second in the 1600m at the Minnesota State High School Track championships, was third at the State Nordic Ski meet in freestyle, and finished seventh at the State Cross Country Championships. In addition, her club soccer team was the state champion during all four years of high school.

At the University of Minnesota, Jamie was a starter in soccer as a freshman and after that became a full-time runner competing in both cross country and track. During her collegiate career, she held school records in the mile, the 3000m and in three relays. She also held the second fastest times for the U in the 800m (indoor and outdoor), the steeplechase and 6k cross country. Jamie was a three-time All American.

Since becoming a professional runner, she has been a member of three U.S. World teams in cross country, competed in the steeplechase at both the 2012 and 2016 U.S. Olympic Track Trials, and in 2013 was ranked second in the U.S. in the steeplechase with a time of 9:29.13.

Jamie was a member of Team USA Minnesota from 2011-13 and rejoined the team in the fall of 2016.
