Heather Kampf Wins Minnesota Mile in Duluth, Jon Peterson 2nd in Men's Mile; Gabriele Grunewald Is 2nd in 800m at Rieti World Challenge Meet in Italy

Minneapolis/St. Paul - Sept. 7, 2014 - Team USA Minnesota's Heather Kampf won the eighth annual Grandma's Minnesota Mile road race in downtown Duluth today, while her teammates Jon Peterson and Eric Finan were second and eighth respectively in the men's mile.  In Italy, Gabriele Grunewald was second in the 800 meters at the Rieti IAAF World Challenge meeting in Italy.


Kampf was making her fifth appearance at the Minnesota Mile which she won in 2012 and was second in 2013.  Her time was 4:29.9.  Kampf also won the inaugural Bring Back the Mile Grand Prix Tour 2014, which was a series of six road mile races.  Next up for Kampf will be the Fifth Avenue Mile in New York City on Sept. 13.

Peterson's time was 4:04 in the men's race and Finan crossed the finish line in 4:10.9.  The two Team USA Minnesota teammates will compete in the USA 5k Championships in Providence on Sept. 21.

At the Rieti World Challenge track meet, Grunewald ran a season best time of 2:02.01 in the 800m.  In her final track race of the year, she will travel to Morocco where she will compete in the IAAF Continental Cup in Marrakech on Sept. 13.  She will run the 3000 meters at this event.
