Team USA Minnesota Runners to Compete at Cow Harbor 10k, USA 5k Championships Sept. 20-21; Heather Kampf Is 4th at Fifth Avenue Mile

Minneapolis/St. Paul - Sept. 17, 2014 - Three Team USA Minnesota distance runners - Meghan Peyton, Jon Peterson and Eric Finan - will compete this weekend including at the Great Cow Harbor 10k on Sept. 20 and at the USA 5k Championships on Sept. 21.


Peyton and Peterson will run the Great Cow Harbor 10k on Saturday in Northport, New York, and then travel to Providence, Rhode Island, for the USA 5k Championships on Sunday where they will be joined by Finan.  The 5k championships are hosted by the CVS Health Downtown 5k.

Peyton has a 10k road best of 33:17 which she set at the USA 10k Championships on July 4th at Peachtree.  At the 2013 Cow Harbor, Peterson placed fourth with a time of 29:54.  The 10k race starts at 8:30 a.m. (Eastern time) and features some 5,500 participants on a course that has a view of the Long Island Sound.

The USA 5k Championships in Providence starts at 11:15 a.m. (Eastern).  Last year, Peyton finished seventh in 16:04 at the race.  Peterson and Finan have 5000 meter bests of 13:39 and 13:37 respectively with both racing at this championship for the first time.

Weekend Results - Sept. 13

Heather Kampf was fourth at the Fifth Avenue Mile in New York City on Sept. 13 with a time of 4:21.4.  At the IAAF Continental Cup in Marrakech, Morocco, Gabriele Grunewald finished sixth in the 3000 meters with a time of 9:05.58.

Both women have now concluded their 2014 competitive year having begun their seasons last winter.  Grunewald was the national champion at the USA Indoor 3000 meters and both she and Kampf (in the 1500m) were members of the U.S. team that competed at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Poland.  In the spring, Kampf won the USA 1 Mile Road Championships and represented the U.S. at the IAAF World Relay Championships on the 1500-meter team.  In late summer, Grunewald was a member of the U.S. team at the DecaNation Meet.

During the summer months, the two mid-distance runners competed in Europe at a variety of distances and also ran well on the road mile circuit.  Kampf won the Ryan Shay Mile and the Minnesota Mile as well as the 2014 Bring Back the Mile Grand Prix Tour.  Grunewald won the Liberty Mile.
