Team USA Minnesota Set for Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon Weekend Oct. 4-5; Meghan Peyton to Run in USA Marathon Championships; Four to Compete in TC 10 Mile; Seven Assisting at TC Family Events

Minneapolis/St. Paul - Sept. 30, 2014 - The Team USA Minnesota distance runners will compete and/or volunteer during the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon weekend of Oct. 4-5, an event that occurs in the team's hometown of Minneapolis/St. Paul.  Leading the way will be Meghan Peyton, who will run in the USA Marathon Championships, while Jon Peterson, Eric Finan, Emily Gordon and Gina Valgoi will compete in the Medtronic TC 10 Mile, with both races occurring on Oct. 5.


Peyton ran in last year's USA Marathon Championships - also held at Twin Cities - and placed ninth with a time of 2:38:57.  The 2013 USA 20k Champion looks to improve on both her time and place in this year's marathon championships, which are hosted by the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon.  The race starts at 8:00 a.m. in downtown Minneapolis and finishes on the State Capitol grounds in St. Paul.

Preceding the marathon on Sunday starting at 7:00 a.m. will be the Medtronic TC 10 Mile which also starts in downtown Minneapolis and finishes at the State Capitol in St. Paul.  Peterson was the 2013 winner with a time of 48:06.  Teammates Finan, Gordon and Valgoi will make their 10 mile debut at the event.

Finan has a half marathon time of 1:04:42, while Gordon has a half marathon best of 1:14:13 and Valgoi has run 33:07 in the 10,000m.  Gordon and Valgoi joined Team USA Minnesota this last summer.  The 10 Mile is the site of the USATF Minnesota Association 10 Mile Championships.

At the Medtronic TC Family Events on Oct. 4, seven Team USA Minnesota runners will volunteer at the Diana Pierce Family Mile at 10:00 a.m. and the Half Mile at 10:30 a.m.  The runners will assist with warm-ups, cheer on the participants, hand out medals and sign autographs.  The mile and half mile races will be held on John Ireland Boulevard near the State Capitol.

Athletes at the Family Events on Saturday include Gabriele Grunewald, Dani Stack, Gina Valgoi, Emily Gordon, Jon Peterson, Eric Finan and Jon Grey.  In addition, Heather Kampf will assist with broadcast duties during the Twin Cities Marathon on Sunday.
