Jon Peterson to Compete at .US National 12k Championships on Nov. 16; Four Team USA Minnesota Runners Finish in Top 12 at EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler Led by Jon Grey

Minneapolis/St. Paul - Nov. 11, 2014 - Team USA Minnesota's Jon Peterson will be among the elite competitors who have qualified to run in the .US National 12k Championships in Alexandria, Virginia, on Nov. 16.  Peterson obtained an 'A' qualifier for the race by finishing fifth at the USA 7 Mile Championships at Bix in July with a time of 33:54.


Most recently, Peterson finished seventh at the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler on Nov. 9 with a time of 48:46.  He is also the two-time winner of the Medtronic TC 10 Mile race which is held annually on the first Sunday in October.  He has a best in the 10 mile distance of 48:06.

The 12k Championship, now in its second year, is the final race of the year-long USATF Running Circuit.  The elite women will start at 7:15 a.m. and the elite men along with the rest of the field will begin at 7:25 a.m. (Eastern).

EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler Results

All four Team USA Minnesota runners finished in the top 12 at the EQT Pittsburgh 10 Miler held on Nov. 9, with the race going through five city neighborhoods and over four bridges before finishing downtown.  Jon Grey finished fifth and first American to lead his teammates in the race.  His time was 48:16.  In 2013, Grey was sixth at Pittsburgh with a time of 47:38.

"The course ran slower than last year," said Grey.  "It was pretty windy today but it was a very solid course and a great test.  It was a great springboard for the rest of my season."  Next up for Grey will be the USATF Club Cross Country Championships which will be held on Dec. 13 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Jon Peterson crossed the finish line at the Pittsburgh 10 Miler in seventh place and was the second American with a time of 48:46.

New Team USA Minnesota women Gina Valgoi and Emil Gordon, who both joined the team in September, finished 11th and 12th respectively in the women's field with times of 59:58 and 1:01:34.
