Five Team USA Minnesota Athletes to Run in Thanksgiving Day Events; Katie McGregor Named Women's Coach of U.S. Team at Chiba Ekiden

Minneapolis/St. Paul - Nov. 19, 2014 - Five Team USA Minnesota athletes will run in Thanksgiving Day events on Nov. 27, including the Life Time Turkey Day 5k in Minneapolis, the Thanksgiving Day Race 10k in Cincinnati, and the Thanksgiving Day 5k in Palm Desert.


Celebrating Thanksgiving in Minneapolis will be Heather Kampf, Jon Peterson and Jon Grey who will run in the Turkey Day 5k in downtown Minneapolis.  The event, which has been held since 1989, starts at 8 a.m. and attracts over 15,000 runners and walkers.  The 5k is a fun run so no official results will be kept.

Eric Finan will run in the Thanksgiving Day Race 10k in Cincinnati, which is his home town and where he had his collegiate career at the University of Cincinnati.  The race will mark its 105th year and is the sixth oldest race in America.  It starts at 9 a.m. (Eastern).

Out west, Meghan Peyton will be among the runners in the Thanksgiving Day 5k in Palm Desert, California.  The eighth annual run starts at 8 a.m. (Pacific).

International Chiba Ekiden - Nov. 24

Team USA Minnesota Board member and seven-time national champion Katie McGregor has been named the women's coach of the U.S. team that will compete at the International Chiba Ekiden in Chiba, Japan on Nov. 24.  McGregor has multiple years of international running experience including as a six-time World Cross Country member, and she has been on several World Outdoor and World Indoor teams as well.

The Chiba Ekiden was first held in 1988 and features a marathon relay race of six legs of varying distances through the streets of Chiba City, with three men and three women comprising a team.  Each team also has a male and female alternate.  Last year the U.S. team finished fifth among the international competitors.
