Team USA Minnesota Receives Allan Steinfeld Development Award at Running USA Conference; Heather Kampf to Run Wanamaker Mile at NYRR Millrose Games Feb. 14; Jon Grey Named to U.S. Team for PanAm Cross Country Cup

Minneapolis/St. Paul - Feb. 12, 2015 - Team USA Minnesota has been selected as the 2015 recipient of Running USA's Allan Steinfeld Development Award.  The distance running training center, which is based in Minneapolis/St. Paul, was presented with the $25,000 grant at the Running USA Industry Conference on Feb. 9 in New Orleans.


"We appreciate the opportunity that Running USA provides to American distance training programs and we are extremely pleased to be selected for this award," said Pat Goodwin, president and founder of Team USA Minnesota.  "The grant will provide tremendous assistance to our group as we complete our fourth Olympic cycle in 2016."

The team's athletes, who are coached by Dennis Barker, compete on the track, the roads and in cross country.  To date the group has developed 22 national champions and an Olympian, achieved 71 top three finishes in U.S. championship events and placed athletes on 29 world teams.  Team USA Minnesota was also the first recipient of the Allan Steinfeld Development Award, which was presented in 2010.

Among the criteria considered for the award are performance and rankings of a team's athletes along with program components that include coaching, medical support, athlete financial assistance, and community involvement.  Nine training groups applied for this year's award according to Running USA.

NYRR Millrose Games - Feb. 14

Heather Kampf will be in the women's field for the Wanamaker Mile at the 108th running of the NYRR Millrose Games in New York City on Feb. 14.  Her event will be at 7:20 p.m. (Eastern).  Kampf most recently posted 4:31.24 for the indoor mile at the Camel City Mile event on Jan. 31.

Pan American Cross Country Cup - Feb. 22

Jon Grey has been selected to the U.S. team that will compete at the APA Pan American Cross Country Cup in Barranquilla, Columbia, on Feb. 22.  Grey earned the spot with his 10th place finish at the USA Cross Country Championships in Boulder on Feb. 7.  The men's squad will run the 8k at the meet.

USA Cross Country Championships - Results

In the senior men's 12k race at the USA Cross Country Championships in Boulder on Feb. 7, Jon Grey was 10th, Eric Finan finished in 24th place, and Jon Peterson crossed the line in 30th.  In the senior women's 8k race, Meghan Peyton was 14th.
