Heather Kampf and Three Team USA Minnesota Runners to Compete at USA 1 Mile Road Championships on May 14; Gabriele Grunewald to Run at Hoka One One Meet May 14

Minneapolis/St. Paul - May 12, 2015 - Team USA Minnesota's Heather Kampf and three teammates - Meghan Peyton, Gina Valgoi, and Jon Peterson - will be among the competitors at the USA 1 Mile Road Championships hosted by the Medtronic TC 1 Mile on May 14.  On the West Coast, Gabriele Grunewald will run in the Hoka One One Middle Distance Classic in Eagle Rock, California, (near Pasadena) on May 14.


After a decade of racing on Nicollet Mall, the TC 1 Mile and championship races will be held this year on Hennepin Avenue in downtown Minneapolis.  The event will start near the Parade Athletic Fields adjacent to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden, race by the Basilica of St. Mary, and finish in the heart of the Hennepin Avenue Theater District near the 6th Street intersection.  More than 2,500 runners are expected to participate in the TC 1 Mile races with the first wave starting at 6:45 p.m.  The professional women's wave begins at 7:54 p.m. and the professional men's will be at 8:06 p.m.

The Team USA Minnesota athletes will be led by two-time USA 1 Mile Road Champion Kampf (2012 and 2014).  She has a mile best on the roads of 4:21.39 and she won the 2014 Bring Back the Mile Grand Prix Tour.  So far this year, she has won the Bermuda Mile and the Grand Blue Mile and was second at the B.A.A. Mile.

Joining Kampf in the women's field will be Peyton, who has posted4:40.5 for the mile and Valgoi who has run4:43.69.

On the men's side, Peterson has a best of 4:00.54 in the mile which he set on the track last year.  He also was the second place finisher at the 2014 Minnesota Mile in Duluth.

Hoka One One Middle Distance Classic - May 14

Gabriele Grunewald will run the 1500 meters at the Hoka One One Middle Distance Classic which will be held on Thursday evening in California.  This high performance meet will be held at the Bill Henry Track in Jack Kemp Stadium.  The women's 1500 meter race will start at 8:25 p.m. (Pacific time).  Grunewald has a best in the distance of 4:01.48.
