Minneapolis/St. Paul - July 20, 2015 - Five Team USA Minnesota distance runners will be competitions this week, with Gabriele Grunewald at two track meets in Europe, Gina Valgoi and Emily Gordon running in the Life Time Fitness Torchlight 5k in Minneapolis on July 22, Jon Peterson racing at the Quad City Times Bix 7 Mile in Davenport, Iowa, on July 25, and Heather Kampf traveling to Michigan to defend her title at the Ryan Shay Mile on July 25.

Grunewald will conclude her European track campaign this week by competing in the 800 meters at a meet in Bellinzona, Switzerland, on July 21, and then running the 1500 meters at Sainsbury's Anniversary Games in London on July 24.  Last week in Luzern, she posted 2:02.72 in the 800m.

In downtown Minneapolis, Valgoi and Gordon will run in the Torchlight 5k on Wednesday with the event starting at 7:30 p.m.  The 5k begins at the Basilica, follows the Aquatennial's Torchlight Parade route, crosses over the Stone Arch Bridge at the Mississippi River and finishes in St. Anthony Main.  Both runners are using the event as a tune-up for their fall races.

Peterson will head to Iowa this weekend to race in the 41st annual Bix 7 Mile on July 25.  Last year Peterson finished fifth at Bix with a time of 33:54.  Most recently, he ran a personal best time of 13:33.17 (previous best was 13:36.29) in the 5000 meters at the Heusden Night of Athletics in Belgium on July 18.

At the seventh annual Ryan Shay Mile in Charlevoix, Michigan, on July 25, Kampf will look to defend her title as well as to be a four-time champion.  At last year's mile race, she posted a personal best time on the roads in the distance of 4:21.39.  Kampf is returning to the roads after competing July 7-18 in Europe on the track where she posted wins in the 800m at the Cork City Meet in Ireland, and in the 1500m at the Kortrijk meet in Belgium.
