Three Team USA Minnesota Runners to Compete at USA 5k Championships Sept. 20; Parker Stinson to Run at Cow Harbor 10k Sept. 19; Gabriele Grunewald Wins Minnesota Mile; Heather Kampf 4th at 5th Avenue Mile

Minneapolis/St. Paul - Sept. 15, 2015 - Three Team USA Minnesota runners - Gabriele Grunewald, Gina Valgoi and Jon Peterson - will compete in the USA 5k Championships in Providence on Sept. 20, while Parker Stinson will run in the Great Cow Harbor 10k in Northport, New York, on Sept. 19.


The 5k championships are hosted by the CVS Health Downtown 5k and start at 11:15 a.m. (Eastern).  Grunewald last competed in this race in 2012 and finished fourth in 15:44.  She has a best on the track in the 5000 meters of 15:19.  This race will conclude the 2015 season for Grunewald.

Valgoi will be making her first appearance at the 5k championships. She most recently posted 16:59 at the Victory 5k and has a best on the track in the distance of 15:54.  Peterson competed in Providence last year, finishing 12th in 14:16.  He has a best in the 5000m of 13:33.

On Saturday, Stinson will compete in the Cow Harbor 10k, which will be his first road 10k since starting his professional career this year.  He has run 27:54 in the 10,000 meters on the track.  The 10k race, which runs along the Long Island Sound, starts at 8:30 a.m. (Eastern time).

Minnesota Mile Results

Gabriele Grunewald won Grandma's Minnesota Mile in Duluth on Sept. 13 with a time of 4:38 and also secured second place in the 2015 Bring Back the Mile Grand Prix Tour.  She previously won the Minnesota Mile in 2013.

Gina Valgoi finished in fifth place with a time of 4:57, while Jon Peterson was fourth in the men's field with a time of 4:12.

5th Avenue Mile Results

Heather Kampf was fourth in the NYRR 5th Avenue Mile on Sept. 13 with a time of 4:30.3.  Prior to the race on the streets of New York City, Kampf competed on the track in the Long Island Mile on Sept. 9 and finished third with a time of 4:30.37.  Kampf has now completed her 2015 season and was the winner of the 2015 Bring Back the Mile Grand Prix Tour.
