Heather Kampf Is 4th in Wanamaker Mile at NYRR Millrose Games; Biya Simbassa Wins Space City 10 Miler in Houston

Minneapolis/St. Paul - Feb. 23, 2016 - Team USA Minnesota's Heather Kampf placed fourth in the Wanamaker Mile at the NYRR Millrose Games in New York City on Feb. 20, and Biya Simbassa won the Space City 10 Miler in Houston on Feb. 21.


Kampf's time in the prestigious indoor mile was 4:27.26, which was a personal best for her and a qualifying time for the USA Indoor Championships that will be held in Portland, Oregon, on March 11-12.  Kampf also has a qualifier for USA Indoor in the 3000 meters of 8:58.34.  Both times meet the standards for the IAAF World Indoor Championships.

In Houston, Simbassa ran the Space City 10 Miler as a tune-up for the USA 15k Championships, which will be held as part of the Gate River Run in Jacksonville on March 12.  His winning time in the 10 Miler was 50:15.

Simbassa has been training in Houston during January and February - along with other Team USA Minnesota distance runners - thanks to the support of the Houston Marathon Foundation.  During this winter training residency, he ran a debut time of 1:03:28 in the Aramco Houston Half Marathon on Jan. 17, and placed 12th at the USATF Cross Country Championships men's open 10k on Feb. 6.
