Meghan Peyton, Katy Moen, Jon Peterson, Biya Simbassa to Compete at Portland Track Festival June 11-12; Heather Kampf Runs 1500m PR at Furman Elite Meet

Minneapolis/St. Paul - June 7, 2016 - Team USA Minnesota's Meghan Peyton, Katy Moen, Jon Peterson and Biya Simbassa will be among the competitors at the Portland Track Festival held this weekend at Lewis & Clark College.  The four athletes are looking to improve their times in either the 5000 or 10,000 meter distances as well as to obtain automatic qualifying times for the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Team Trials that will be held in Eugene July 1-10.


Peyton and Moen will compete in the women's 10,000 meter race that will be held on June 11 at 8:20 p.m. (Pacific).  The two have season bests of 33:05.33 and 33:05.31 respectively and need to run 32:25 for an automatic Trials qualifying time.

Most recently, Peyton and Moen competed in the Freihofer's Run for Women 5k road race on June 4, with Peyton finishing sixth in 16:27 and Moen crossing the line in seventh place in 16:30.

On the track in Portland on June 12, Peterson and Simbassa will be seeking to run the automatic qualifying time of 13:28 or better in the 5000m.  The men's 5000 meter race will be held at 8:30 p.m. Sunday evening.

Peterson has a best in the distance of 13:33.17 which he set last July in Europe, while Simbassa ran his best of 13:37.86 at the Mt. SAC Relays in April.

Furman Elite 1500m

Heather Kampf posted a personal best time of 4:04.46 (previous best was 4:04.50) to finish third in the women's 1500 meter race at the Furman Elite track meet in Greenville, South Carolina, on June 4.  The time is well under the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Trials qualifying time of 4:09.50 as well as the Olympic qualifying time of 4:07.

Next up for Kampf will be an 800 meter race at the adidas Boost Boston Games on June 17.
