Four Team USA Minnesota Distance Runners to Compete at Home on Sept. 11 in Minnesota Mile and City of Lakes Half Marathon; Heather Kampf 3rd at 5th Avenue Mile

Minneapolis/St. Paul - Sept. 6, 2016 - Four Team USA Minnesota distance runners will compete in their home state on Sept. 11 with Heather Kampf, Meghan Peyton and Biya Simbassa competing in the Minnesota Mile in Duluth, and Rob Molke running the City of Lakes Half Marathon in Minneapolis.

 

Kampf and Peyton will run in the Grandma's Minnesota Mile women's elite race which starts at 10:20 a.m., with Simbassa entered in the men's elite mile race at 10:30 a.m.  The point-to-point course goes through the heart of downtown Duluth and is part of the Bring Back the Mile Grand Prix Tour.

Kampf is a two-time winner of the Minnesota Mile (2014 and 2012), four-time USA 1 Mile Road Champion, and has a best in the road mile of 4:19.8.  Peyton has posted 4:40.5 in the mile and Simbassa has run 4:05.5 in the distance.

Also on Sunday, Molke will run the City of Lakes Half Marathon as part of his ongoing preparation for his debut at the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon in October.  Molke has a best in the half marathon of 1:03:27.  The race starts at 8 a.m. on a course that goes around Lake Harriet and Lake Calhoun.

Labor Day Weekend Race Results

After two fourth place finishes in 2015 and 2014, Heather Kampf made the podium this year at the New Balance 5th Avenue Mile on Sept. 3 in New York City with a third place finish and a new personal best of 4:19.8 in the road mile (previous best was 4:21).  

In Minneapolis, Biya Simbassa won the Victory 5k on Labor Day with a time of 14:21.

Running in the USATF 20k Championships in New Haven on Sept. 5, Meghan Peyton was 15th with a time of 1:13:38 while Jon Peterson and Rob Molke were 31st in 1:03:36 and 33rd in 1:03:50 respectively.
