Jon Peterson Is 7th, Rob Molke 11th in Debuts at 35th Annual Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon; Results from USATF 10 Mile Championships
Minneapolis/St. Paul - Oct. 10, 2016 - Team USA Minnesota's Jon Peterson was seventh and Rob Molke finished 11th in their marathon debuts at the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon, which was marking its 35th anniversary on Oct. 9. In the companion Medtronic TC 10 Mile race - host of the USATF 10 Mile Championships - Biya Simbassa was 13th and Meghan Peyton crossed the finish line in 17th place.
"There were great efforts from all the Team USA Minnesota athletes at Twin Cities," said new team coach Chris Lundstrom. "We're on the right path. Now it's rest, recover and begin again."
On a picture perfect Autumn day at Twin Cities, Peterson was in the top 10 throughout the marathon and completed the 26.2 mile distance in 2:20:21. In addition to his seventh place finish, he was also the first Minnesota runner in the race.
Molke's marathon time was 2:26:39. Both runners went through the half marathon point in 1:09 but Molke dropped off Peterson's pace around mile 17 and finished the race on his own in 11th place. Marathon officials reported that the annual fall event recorded 8,551 finishers.
In the USATF 10 Mile Championships, which started an hour before the marathon race, Simbassa set a personal best of 48:33 (previous was 49:11) to finish 13th in the men's race, while Peyton was 17th in 56:48 in the women's field. There were 9,200 finishers in the 10 mile event.
