RRCA Announces 2016 Roads Scholar Grantees
Team USA Minnesota's Rob Molke has received one of six 2016 Roads Scholar Grants, a development program funded by the Road Runners Club of American (RRCA) since 1996. The goal of the grant is to assist American post-collegiate runners who show great promise to develop into national and world class professional road running athletes. The grants go directly to the athletes to support their training needs.
Molke joined Team USA Minnesota in January 2016. He competed in track and cross country at Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey, and his collegiate running career was at Syracuse University. The 2014 graduate took to the roads out of college, competing at the 2014 Falmouth Road Race and the Rock 'n' Roll Philadelphia Half Marathon, followed by the 2015 USATF Half Marathon Championships where he posted 1:03:27 for a qualifying time for the 2016 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials.
This past year he was the top American at the 2016 Pittsburgh Half Marathon, eighth at the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon, and 11th in his marathon debut at the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon.
"I am thrilled to receive this grant," said Molke, who works part time as a media and public relations consultant, and is an assistant cross country and track coach at Edina High School. "I am very excited for my future in the sport, very appreciative of the selection, and looking forward to running with RRCA's support in 2017."
