Team USA Minnesota Runners to Compete at Indoor Track Meets Jan. 28 and Feb. 4, and at USATF Cross Country Championships on Feb. 4; Four Athletes Receive MEADP Grants
Minneapolis/St. Paul - Jan. 24, 2017 - Five Team USA Minnesota distance runners will compete at Indoor Track meets held Jan. 28 and Feb. 4 - including the Jack Johnson Classic, Black and Gold Premier, and the Armory Track Invitational - while four of the athletes will run in the USATF Cross Country Championships held in Bend, Oregon on Feb. 4.
Indoor Track Meets
Meghan Peyton, Jamie Cheever and Jon Peterson will all run the 3000 meters at the Jack Johnson Classic that will be held Jan. 28 at the University of Minnesota fieldhouse in Minneapolis. Peyton has run 9:17.0 in the distance, Cheever has posted 9:11.04, and Peterson has a best of 7:55.36.
At the University of Iowa in Iowa City, also on Jan. 28, Kevin Lewis will run the 3000 meters at the Black and Gold Premier meet. He has a best of 7:57.06.
Heather Kampf will begin her track season on Feb. 4 and will run the 3000 meters at the Armory Track Invitational in New York City. She has posted 8:58.34 in the distance.
USATF Cross Country Championships
Meghan Peyton, Jamie Cheever, Rob Molke and Ryan Rutherford will be among the competitors at the USATF Cross Country Championships that will be held at the Rivers Edge Golf Course in Bend, Oregon, on Feb. 4.
Peyton and Cheever will run in the senior women's 10 km race at 1:30 p.m. (Pacific time), with Molke and Rutherford racing in the senior men's 10 km at 2:20 p.m. The event is the first race in the 2017 USATF Running Circuit. In addition, the Championships serve as the National Team selection for the IAAF World Cross Country Championships that will be held March 26 in Kampala, Uganda.
Four Team USA Minnesota runners have received grants ranging from $500 to $750 from the Minnesota Elite Athlete Development Program (MEADP) for 2017. The athletes include Heather Kampf, Katy Moen, Jamie Cheever and Rob Molke.
