USATF Outdoor Championships - Results

The USA Track & Field Outdoor Championships were held June 22-25 in Sacramento where temperatures reached over 100 degrees most days, which made races challenging especially for the distance runners.

Despite the conditions, Meghan Peyton ran a season best of 33:46.69 in the 10,000 meters on Thursday night and placed 14th in the field.  On the same night, Kevin Lewis finished his 10,000 meter race in 30:14.01 to place 20th.

Also on June 22, Heather Kampf - who had just recently returned to running after a sacral stress fracture diagnosed in April - placed fifth in her heat of the 1500 meters with a time of 4:15.40.  However, she did not advance to the final of the women's 1500m, which was held on Saturday.

In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Jamie Cheever posted a time of 9:49.82, which was a season best, in the semi-finals that were held on June 22.  Her time and place advanced her to the steeplechase final on June 24, where she placed 13th in 10:16.01.

"I am extremely proud of all four of our athletes who competed at USA Outdoor," said Team USA Minnesota coach Chris Lundstrom.  "Kevin and Meghan showed patience and determination in hot conditions.  Heather worked like a champion to return from injury, and had the courage to toe the line in less than her best fitness.  Jamie ran a well-executed prelim, but was hampered by a painful ankle in the finals.  We look forward to coming back stronger in the years to come."
