Five Team USA Minnesota Runners to Compete at USA Club Cross Country Championships Dec. 9; Meghan Peyton 14th at USA Marathon Championships

Minneapolis/St. Paul - Dec. 5, 2017 - Five Team USA Minnesota runners - Katy Moen, Breanna Sieracki, Ryan Rutherford, Kevin Lewis and Danny Docherty - will compete at the 2017 USATF National Club Cross Country Championships that will be held in Lexington, Kentucky, on Dec. 9.

The open women's 6k race will be held at 11:45 a.m. (Eastern) and the open men's 10k will start at 12:30 p.m.  The club championships serve as a selection race for the U.S. team that will travel to the United Kingdom to race in the 2018 Great Edinburgh Cross Country Championships on Jan. 13.

Moen competed in cross country at Iowa State University where she finished eighth at the 2014 DI Cross Country Championships.  Sierecki (previously Colbenson) ran collegiately at the University of Minnesota-Duluth and finished seventh at the 2016 DII Cross Country Championships.

Rutherford ran cross country at Illinois State University where he set school records in the event, while Lewis competed in cross country at the University of Iowa and was a Big Ten Conference standout.  Docherty was a cross country competitor at Loyola University Chicago.

USA Marathon Championships

Meghan Peyton finished 14th in the women's field at the USATF Marathon Championships held Dec. 3 in Sacramento.  Her time of 2:37:33 was a personal best (previous was 2:38:57) and also qualified her to compete in the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon Trials.

"Meghan ran an intelligent, controlled race, executing her race plan very effectively," said Team USA Minnesota Coach Chris Lundstrom.  "She took a really nice step with this PR and will look to build on this through the spring.

"Tyler Jermann felt a twinge in his calf at three miles, but was still able to maintain a very strong pace.  However, the calf tightened up to the point where we made the decision to step off the course and save it for another day.  He is very fit and will look to make another marathon attempt early next year."
