Grandma's Marathon Returns as Team USA Minnesota Sponsor for 2019; Provides 10 Entries to Sold-Out Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon for Fundraiser

Minneapolis/St. Paul - Jan. 8, 2019 - Grandma's Marathon returns as a bronze sponsor of the Team USA Minnesota Distance Training Center for 2019 and will also provide 10 entries for the sold-out Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon to use as a fundraiser.  The 43rd annual Grandma's Marathon weekend is set for June 21-23 in Duluth.

Runners interested in obtaining one of the 10 entries for the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon can send an e-mail to Patricia Goodwin at or call 952-454-8876.  A contribution of $200 per entry would be made to Team USA Minnesota, which is a 501c3 nonprofit.  Runners who make the donation will be sent a link so they can register online for the 2019 race, with no additional fees.

"We truly appreciate that Grandma's Marathon has returned for a third year of sponsoring our group," said Austin Budlong, Team USA Minnesota president.  "The athletes look forward to competing in Duluth and already have plans to enter the half marathon or marathon in June as well as the Minnesota Mile in September."

The Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon starts at 6:15 a.m. followed by the marathon at 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, on a course that goes along the Lake Superior shoreline and finishes in downtown Duluth.  The half marathon filled in early October with 7,500 runners; the marathon is still open and will close when it reaches 9,000 participants.

"Grandma's Marathon is excited to extend its sponsorship of the Team USA Minnesota training group," said Shane Bauer, executive director of Grandma's Marathon.  "We will once again welcome the team's athletes to race in Duluth and we fully support the group's mission of developing talented distance runners to compete on the national and international level - on the roads, the track and in cross country."
